‘The Lego Movie’: time to play
I’m a little late to this conversation, but I figure that since I still have Lego that I made as a child and I refuse to let anyone touch it, you’ll forgive the tardy post. Yes, The Lego Movie is surprisingly worth seeing (3 ¼ stars on 0-5 scale). It’s superbly animated, with a great concept and a very good ending. However, after sitting through 100 minutes of its frenetic pacing and throw-everything-at-the-wall style, I’m exhausted. It’s a great movie for kids, but sometimes it feels like it was made BY kids. Less is more, people, especially when it comes to “Everything is Awesome.” I realize the song was supposed to be a commentary on how people are a bit dumb and brainwashed, so then why play it twice again near the end of the film? It’s maybe the most annoying song I’ve heard in a movie since “Hanging Out with My Family” made my ears bleed during Birdemic and Birdemic 2. How’s that for a lukewarm endorsement? Seriously, though, see the film.
