Festivalitis hits Orlando
Fall is approaching fast, and that means one thing to cinephiles in Central Florida: festivals.
Though film fests happen throughout the year, autumn always seems the busiest in the City Beautiful. The Love Your Shorts Summer Rewind just finished, as did the Orlando Urban Film Festival, and the Orlando 48 Hour Film Project competition is wrapping up today. Its screening will take place September 21, overlapping the Global Peace Film Festival, which runs September 17-22 at various spots in the northern Orlando metro area. Those come just a few days on the heels of the Organization of Independent Filmmakers (OIF) “Roar” Challenge screening, to be held on September 14 in Altamonte Springs.
The big fall fest is always the aptly named Orlando Film Festival, which runs October 31 – November 7 in downtown Orlando. But don’t forget three smaller, prestigious fests offered by Maitland’s Enzian Theater: the South Asian Film Festival (October 5-7), the Central Florida Jewish Film Festival (November 2-4) and the Brouhaha Film & Video Showcase (November 23-24).
And for a completely different experience, there’s the Spooky Empire Horror Film Festival, set for October 11-13 at the Hyatt Regency on International Drive.
