Trump’s artistic ‘hand’

Like many other authoritarian leaders, President Trump fancies himself a connoisseur of the arts while simultaneously seeking to eliminate art he deems offensive. Fortunately, the American system of government prevents Trump from controlling the arts the way other nations’ dictators have. Nevertheless, he is pushing U.S. laws to their limits and beyond with his recent efforts to eliminate the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s financial support of PBS and NPR, and personally control content at the Kennedy Center and the Smithsonian Institution. In his latest move, Trump has fired the director of the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery. (See CBSnews.com for details.)

I don’t know what Trump’s favorite film is, but I’m guessing it’s not Czech director Jiří Trnka’s The Hand, an animated allegory from 1965. In fact, I doubt he has even seen it. If you have not, check it out below. I guarantee it’s the least Trumpy thing you will see today.
