Sony Pictures Studios
This 40-acre lot in Culver City is the former home of MGM Studios. During its height in the 1930s and 1940s, this lot was 400 acres, but hard times in the 1970s and 1980s forced the studio to sell off its entire backlot and some of its sound stages. Still, a lot of the historic lot remains, including the largest stage in North America (#15), where The Wizard of Oz and many other classics were shot. The lot is now the home of Sony Pictures, which owns Columbia Pictures. (The old Columbia lot is now Sunset Gower Studios.) Click photos to enlarge.
