Plaza Cinema
The Plaza Cinema in Ottawa, Kansas, is certified by the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s oldest continuously operating purpose-built cinema. The first movie shown at this location was The Great Train Robbery in 1905. Though it’s gone by different names over the years, this theater in the small town in eastern Kansas has been showing films without significant pause since 1907. It was divided into two houses a few decades ago, but it’s still going strong, screening new releases. And if you take the behind-the-scenes tour, you will see the original stage (hidden behind the current screens) and the Movie Memorabilia Museum. For more information, visit the cinema’s website.
