State Theatre

The State Theatre, in Washington, Iowa, has been certified by Guinness Book of Records as the oldest continually operating cinema in the world. The current building, which opened as the Graham Opera House in 1893 (after the original 1886 building burned), screened its first motion picture in 1897. That’s just two years after movies were projected on a screen for the public for the first time, in both Paris and New York City. For more information on the cinema, visit Wikipedia and the city’s website.
